I think the Ukrainians' strategy has been to fight a slow retreat. Essentially, their aim was to buy time, inflict heavy Russian casualties and build up their capabilities. The latter is now paying off. They now have the capability to harass and destroy logistics, C2 centres, Russian troops etc across most of the occupied territories, and to perform regular, large-scale strategic strikes. It seems that the tide has turned.

But so far the net result was always in Russia's favor: Russia would gain more than they lost, and Ukraine would always loose more then they took back. What's changed is that for the past couple of months it seems Ukraine has gained more than it lost and Russia has lost more than it gained. That's what everybody is talking about.
